Mission Statement

The Abilene Regional Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse, Inc. is a nonprofit organization founded in 1958.  The Council's mission centers around goals designed to reduce the prevalence of substance abuse within its service areas and to keep our community healthy, productive and safe by providing accurate and current information to all citizens who are or could be adversely affected by acohol, tobacco and other drugs.

Most of ARCADA’s programs carry the term “Net”.  A net supports, lifts up, rescues, cushions falls, holds what is gathered and connects with intricate knots that collaboratively provide strength and effective security.
These programs or “nets” include prevention and intervention services as well as community outreach and environmental approaches to address a variety of substance abuse and mental health issues in Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) Region 2.

 

Additional Council Services

  • As funding is attained, ARCADA endeavors to provide our programs to as many sites as possible
  • Additional intervention services at Taylor County Juvenile Detention Center
  • ATOD (Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drugs) presentations at Taylor County Parks and Recreation sites, and different agencies requesting substance abuse awareness and parenting presentations
  • ARCADA is providing a research based prevention program called “Here’s Looking at You” offered in the 5th grade in Taylor and Shackelford counties
  • Parenting Skills Classes are offered at Hope Haven (a homeless shelter for families with children) and Noah Project (a shelter for victims of domestic violence)

 

Our Funding

  • The Council receives funding primarily from the Department of State Health Services (DSHS), Taylor County, Shackelford County, Stephens County and grants from service organizations and private corporations, as well as revenue from ARCADA offender education programs
  • The funds received from the various counties, service organizations and private grants are particularly important since they help meet the “match” requirement set forth by DSHS in order to receive state funds.
